The irritating first person thoughts are awkward and unnecessary. Just include them in the third person narrative. Swapping from third to first person in the middle of a sentence is jarring and confusing.

To be honest, the first chapters of this book is one long (and quite frankly boring) infodump. And there are 'factual' issues like direct flights from Norway to Greenland (non-existent), and Greenland having forests big enough to "live in the woods" which repeatedly threw me out of the story. I would already have dnf:ed for sure if it wasn't for the fact it's a Garrett Leigh book...
