One important part from the story is when he was upset because he didn't get the jacket he wanted. The speaker was describing how ugly his jacket looked. He also said he got bullied for it. "I stared at the jacket. I wanted to cry because it was so ugly and big".(1) This shows how Gary didn't like his jacket. He even threw it over the fence. He then realized that he had to be grateful and went to get it back.

One part of the story that I found unfortunate was on page 1 when Gary, the main character of The Jacket, received a jacket that he despised. It was apparent that he hated the jacket when he stated "I wanted to cry" on page 2 because of how ugly the jacket was. In addition, in his unappealing description of the jacket, he stated that it was "the color of day old guacamole", proving that he did not like his jacket.

Gary is a grateful kid. He asked his mom for a jacket and got a really ugly green one. In the story, Gary "threw the jacket onto his brothers bed and looked at it for a long time before slipping it on and going to the backyard, smiling a thank you to his mom" (4). This shows that even though Gary didnt like the jacket hes still grateful.

Gary is a very grateful person. After he threw on the ugly jacket, he still said thank you towards his mom showing he's thankful. In the text it says, "I looked ugly. I threw it on my brother's bed and looked at it before I slipped it on and went out to the backyard, smiling a 'Thank you' to my mom" (2). This proves that he is appreciative of his mother for buying him a jacket even though he still thinks it's ugly.

A trait that describes Gary’s personality is that he is grateful. In the text he says thank you after getting the sweater after calling it ugly. Another detail is that he threw the jacket off a fence and came back later to get his jacket. The text says “I looked ugly. I threw it on my brother's bed and looked at it before I slipped it on and said ‘Thank you’ to my mom” (2). This proves that he is a grateful person.

A part that was very sad was when he was feeling self-conscious about his jacket. For example, when he was at recess, he thought all the students and staff were laughing at him for his jacket. My friend Steve, ate an apple while looking at me, and the girls turned to whisper on the monkey bars. The staff were no help. They looked at me and talked about how weird I looked in my jacket. This shows that the story was sad.

One part that was very sad was when he was feeling self-conscious about his jacket. For example, when Gary was at recess, he thought everyone was laughing at him for his jacket. "They looked at me and talked about how foolish I looked in my new jacket" (2). This proves that when Gary second guessed himself the story was depressing.

One trait to describe Gary is self-conscious. While on the playground he sees the teachers laughing and thinks it is pointed towards him. In the text he thinks, "I heard the buzz-buzz of gossip and even laughter that I knew was for me" (pg. 2). This proves that he is embarrassed because he just assumed he was being talked about but was most likely not.

One trait to describe Gary is his insecurities about himself. One example was when he saw the teachers and students laugh about how funny he looked in his new jacket. "The teachers were no help: they looked my way and talked about how foolish I looked in my new jacket." (3) This shows that Gary was very self-conscious because he assumed that the teachers were bullying him.

One part that was very sad was when Gary Soto threw his jacket into an alleyway. One example is when he heard people wispering about him and his jacket. "Although they didn't say out loud "Man that jacet is ugly". I could hear the buzz buzz of gossip." This shows that people didn't like his jacket and made him feel self conscious.
