One part that was very sad was when he was feeling self-conscious about his jacket. For example, when Gary was at recess, he thought everyone was laughing at him for his jacket. "They looked at me and talked about how foolish I looked in my new jacket" (2). This proves that when Gary second guessed himself the story was depressing.
