poetry-induced + poetry-related drama = best drama, if you ask me :D I love how so much scifi deals with poetry!

The mystery in this book is really working for me, fingers crossed Bodard pulls it off!

In short, Linh was everything Quyen wasn't: a success at the exams, the greater partner in a marriage, should she so choose. Linh would never be sent away to broker a trade alliance, wound never have to produce children to be judged worthy, and her work was admired and praised within the Dai Viet Empire. Unlike Queyen, who was little better than a brood mare.
Love the worldbuilding details we are getting!

This is a bit overly dramatic. Could be the narrator or the prose itself. Not loving it.
