The mystery in this book is really working for me, fingers crossed Bodard pulls it off!

In short, Linh was everything Quyen wasn't: a success at the exams, the greater partner in a marriage, should she so choose. Linh would never be sent away to broker a trade alliance, wound never have to produce children to be judged worthy, and her work was admired and praised within the Dai Viet Empire. Unlike Queyen, who was little better than a brood mare.

Love the worldbuilding details we are getting!

I’m half-way through and I’m really liking it! So far really agreeing with people that it’s great entry point. I’m getting a lot pf world uilding details I had no idea about and the dynamic between the two POV characters is SO interesting and well done! I’m only nervous about the mystery, I have my tin-foil hat on and I’m worried that I will be disappointed that it will turn out more straightforward 😂 But that’s fine…
