The book is slow rolling at times but overall the MC is pretty likable. Justin is confident and brings a positive attitude to the new world he finds himself in. It helps that he has a couple of beauties to adventure with along the way.

I would say this is probably the most promising book 1 of all the harem series I've tried. It definitely has problems, but overall I think it's a fairly solid package. For what it's trying to do, anyways. It's not like the competition is all that amazing...

This book has not rushed through multiple scenarios like the other harem books tend to do. It's been focused on this one outing for the past while. It's a bit refreshing. Not that it's great... but it feels less slapdash. Now if only the mc wasn't a complete douche, then I'd feel comfortable in calling this the best one I've read so far.

The worldbuilding in this is actually fairly decent. Way better than I was expecting. But I'm also reading this directly after Scholomance, which has such an absence of worldbuilding that it basically has a net negative, so it's a stark comparison.
The mc's fratbro demeanor is a massive downside of this book. It could have potentially been amusing, but this author is not savvy enough to pull it off.

For being told that women far outnumber men among mages, we sure have met a lot of dudes. Not sure why the author chose to go down that route... It's also weird that the mc is the way he is. These stories usually have the mc be kind of a nobody in their previous life, but this guy was obviously a 'chad,' having kicked off the story itself via sex. He's also making douchey dudebro jokes constantly, which is annoying.

On one hand, I commend this book for having the first love interest and sex scene be with an older/mature woman. The other books I've read have more or less completely avoided mature women, which has been incredibly disappointing to me. On the other hand, though, there was very little build up to it, which is lame.
The whole frat thing is dumb. Only their first day and already making all these plans and shit.

As dumb as the reason behind the fight was, it was actually written fairly well. More engaging than combat written by the other 2 authors, that's for sure.
I really hate this guy's sense of humor. It's very cringe. I assume it's intentionally that way... I hope... but it doesn't help, in any case.
He's known his 'frat bros' for mere hours and already has nicknames for them. None of them know how to write friendships.

Well, one thing that isn't different is that the men become instant best friends with no preamble. It's really stupid.
Why are fire, air, and earth mages in the 'Storm Mage' house?
Why are other people being sorted into houses the same day the mc is, when it's been established that the mc is kind of late? Why is Bradley Flamewalker a known person if he's also being sorted himself? Wouldn't that make him new?

In the other books, all males (aside from mc) were either enemies, subordinates to the mc, or relatives of the main girls, so none of them could be potential 'competitors.' But this book has already had multiple that do not fit in any of those categories. Interesting, I guess.
Justin met up with dudes and immediately started douchey dudebro antics of rating girls. Bold choice to make the mc so incredibly unlikable.

Not far out of the gate, and this book is already way hornier than the others. Not that the others are absent of horniness - they have sex scenes, after all. But outside of the sex, and the girls being described as hot, everything else is fairly tame. But this book has already gone to lengths to describe females in detail about how sexy they are and what the mc wants to do to them. I can respect it for being honest.

So far, it's about the same as the others: not good, but not terrible. Merely competent. There's already been multiple real-world references, which are always bad. Why do these authors keep doing that? Do they think it grounds it and makes it relatable or something? It's just lazy shit, and takes you out of the story.

Figured I'd try the third and final name that comes up all the time for harem novels on this site, since I have tried the other two multiple times now. I expect it to be largely a similar experience. Perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it.
