In February 1254, Eleanor of Provence, Queen consort to Henry III of England, orders sheriffs of all counties to have 2 knights elected and sent to court to discuss raising money and men for a possible war between England and Spain over England’s territory of Gascony. This was the first parliamentary election.

In about 1217, the Lateran Council of the Catholic Church decreed all Jews must wear a symbol showing they were Jewish on their out clothing. Also, for many years in the early 1200s, Simon de Montfort acts as a type of policeman for the Church putting down a sect in Southern France as well as rebellions. So the crusade at this time before 1217 was against Christians in Toulouse, Montpellier, etc.

The de Montforts stayed well clear of the crusader invasion of Constantinople in 1204. Mentioned a few times is my 25th great grand uncle, Aimery de Lusignan, King of Jerusalem. He became King after marrying Isabella I, granddaughter of Fulk V Count of Anjou and King of Jerusalem from 1131 to 1143. Fulk was the son of Bertrade de Montfort.

Amicia is the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth of Vermandois, my 26th great-grandmother. But Amicia is from the de Beaumont line, I am from the de Warenne line (Earls of Surrey).

Well, at only 1% done, I see from the timeline that I may not be a blood relative of the de Montforts, but that my family has been involved with theirs twice. To start with, King Philip I of France's second wife was Bertrade de Montfort. I am a descendant of Philip's younger brother Hugh I, Count of Vermandois. Then Simon IV de Montfort marries Amicia, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Leicester.
