oh good god, 24 pages of straight exposition

“If I can ask, where am I? And who are you?” “That’ll be explained to you in a little while. Mallory, by the way,” the woman added. “My name, it’s Anne Mallory.” This was a relief, there are way too many characters (8+) introduced without putting name to a description.

Three different "slender females" have been described so far in this book. Page 10 (Moira?), Page 12 an Indian woman (Aishwarya?), Page 42 someone unnamed clad in black. I can't readily associate anyone by their physical description. Poor character descriptions.

Probably the tenth time in just as many pages somebody has sneered and snarled something.

"Three long, serpentine wisps of silver-grey, like streamers of light, coalesced into being behind the blade’s path, slithering like eels to the foot of the dais."

Very good sensory synesthesia.
