#28 Asking Why (elaborative interrogation)
- Students who’re asked to think about their explanation to a fact remembered 2x as much (71%) as those who heard a teacher explain instead (35%), or received none (37%).
- However, this works better if they’ve prior knowledge; so, this works better with HALs toward a unit’s end.
- Use child-friendly P2P explanations instead; however, teachers must check accuracy.
