This felt kind of like that, but high-stakes, not overly enjoyable, and it failed to make me care. I just half-heartedly hoped the main characters survived and escaped, and only that because it was the end of the series. I wasn't liking the book at first, though eventually it improved. But still, it's just meh.

Eh. I dunno. It's just so... surface level? Cheesy, flaky, cheap? I can't find the right word to describe it. But it's missing depth. The relationships are all about lust and admiring eachother's power, and not about their interests or personalities or anything. Sometimes we read simple books as a nice break and enjoy it even if the writing or storytelling isn't great, and it's just a very surface level story.
