Status Updates From Duplex

Wow, this tome went from quippy/snappy to dour, weird and dumb very quickly. The main character’s mom is so poorly drawn. Is mom beyond depressed, is she not functional? Who knows, what with the slow-moving action ramping up. And ramping up now at 83% of the way in. Just let this book end.

Far in, it’s mostly quips, chatting, and teen-boy pondering. Hints that danger is nigh. I’m definitely not the right demographic for this, being over 60.

Wow, I didn’t realize that teenagers wanted so much quippy dialogue in their reads. I don’t read much YA, but this one’s a real eye-opener.

Noticeably more discussions than in the predecessor, Lost And Found. I enjoyed that title somewhat, more than this duo-logy sequel.

Much like the first one, and a lot of overthinking out loud per the teen boy’s narrative.

Oh, this is very similar to Lost & Found, from 2 years earlier. Teen boy, crushes for a girl he walks home, micropowers discerned by a group that notices such things in teens. I almost thought I was rereading Lost & Found.

Definitely aimed at teen boys; they need the boost for fiction reading. Card does his part.

I definitely just picked this book because I finished up my holds list on Libby and clicked one that was available with no expectations. I’m already really engrossed in the plot, the characters, the storytelling…this is on track to be my favorite book this month. I’m really relating to Ryan’s thoughts, besides the pretentiousness of it haha
