Also Lauren appears to be growing more ruthless

Aww I wanted more of this Kaiju fight between Leviathan and Cheetenoose. One paragraph is robbery.

her irises had transformed into an unnaturally bright silver, her pupils reformed into a peculiar diamond shape. Unlike the slits of a cat’s eye—Lauren’s pupils retained a rigid diamond shape as they expanded and collapsed into crosses when they contracted

The progenitor as a character had potential but the execution wasn't quite pulled off. The slight missteps here land a wrong note, but thankfully it doesn't last long.

I liked this moment with the jade ghosts.

They glided silently around, just under the water, giving the lake a look of having globes of glowing green light, meandering off in the distance.

From a storytelling and psychological perspective, the chapter where Lauren meets the 'monster' in the cherry blossom stream is by far the most interesting character work Lauren has displayed.

Lunar is a most unexpected character in this book but I found him refreshing compared to Lauren. I hope we see more of him.

Fiber optic cabling dangled down, like lacerated sinew from the edges of a ragged wound, cut through what would have been another false sky ceiling of Hydro World.

Also Jason's back, as a jerk monster. Boo!

Following the whirlpool sequence, which was pretty cool, I found this great line.

“Lad, why must you emotionally assassinate us every time we catch a break?” Jack asked.

The humour doesn't always work but every now and them there's a line that sparkles.

That sequence with the Pool abomination was tense and exciting!
