Unexpectedly I was sucked back into this book after giving it another chance. I am not sure what happened, but now I am convinced this may be one of the better books I have read this year. But I shouldn't get ahead of myself, it's not over 'til it's over.

Kindle didn't tell me this one was 515 pages! I'm enjoying the work Briggs does with language in places, though as a cohesive narrative, there is much left to be desired here. It's hard to really gauge or understand any of these characters, and the nonlinear storyline is working against the plot, rather than with it. Still, the writing is pretty damn good, and I'm compelled to keep reading,
