All this magic stuff probably could have been done on the way to catch Ryan the first time instead of the professor just sending two boys off on their own with no information, yes?

"Indeed, I'd rather not give my dear friend more time to gather his resources." Then stop talking and keep some mystery about it. I'm kind of bored with all the standing dialogue that's going on. They could've talked on the ship on the way, but no.

First, he was going to go on the journey with them and now, the next day, he isn't. Hmm....Well, I guess this will keep the world building dialogue down and just have these two kids figure out things on their journey. I just wish that this had happened a little earlier.

I'm hoping that the next book is a little more....active. They've spent so much time in the professors study when they could have been going on their journey and giving the world building. Multi-tasking. This book may just be about world building, but it's slow paced.

Kind of feel like the world building is going on a little long. It's mostly been dialogue and I'm ready for the plot to get moving.

First time I've seen someone get on their knees and beg to keep the plot going

In the middle of Chapter 5 is when the reader is finally getting something about the magic that is in this book. It's a slow burn type of book seems like.

Another good bit of characterization, saying he might look for a job. Gives the reader the idea that he's got some good work ethic even if he struggles not to fall asleep in class.

A good way to get some characterization in there, now I know that Eric has a channel without it being told to just the audience.
