“What do you think I’ve been doing here?” Aidan asked, squinting at the Captain. “Playing pin the tail on the comet?"

As if caused by his thoughts, the wall shimmered and turned transparent, revealing the other half of the small room. On the other side of the containment field was only a block of metal welded to the ground, with a mattress on top. Other than that, it was empty, save for the prisoner laying sprawled out on top of it.

It took Max by surprise how empty it was.
Two... no three people sat scattered around the room, all of them sitting at their own tables. And instead of a cafeteria line like they’d had at the Academy, there were machines in the walls with pictures of food flashing across their screens.

Max looked at Aidan who had his fist rolled at his sides. For a second, Max's mind flickered to what Deborah had said about Aidan being like his father. This was the Turner side of his friend, he had no doubt about that, and he really did not like it.
Without letting himself think about what he was doing, Max jumped back onto the bed and leapt at Aidan. He grabbed his arms, and making sure not to hurt him.

Sir Samson cleared his throat and stepped toward him. “Mentalist, there is a Spearhead here that crashed down a few years ago,” he said, and Aidan’s eyes instantly lit up as the knight continued. “Defender O’Brian told us that you would know a thing about them?”
“Show it to me,” Aidan said, snapping his fingers as if the knight was just one of his minions.

“Yeah, you’re right. I’m much better looking than you,” Max said, grinning as he reached out a hand to ruffle up Aidan’s hair.
“Hey!” Aidan cried, pulling away from Max with a frown. “What was that for?”
Max grinned at him as he leaned back again. “For waking up,” he said.
Aidan’s eyes darkened, and he crossed his arms. “Oh… so you were hoping I would die, and wanted to torture me because I didn’t?” he asked. “Nice…”

Max was good, but so were the Novans. They were two against one, and Max found himself pushing himself to his limits just to stay alive. If it wasn’t for the fact that he was much younger, and quicker on his feet than the Novans, Max knew that he would be dead by now.
As it was, Max was just debating with himself whether it was worth the risk to just pick one and attack them full-on, not worrying about the other.

Deactivating his sword, Max leapt toward the man. “Where am I?” Max hissed, grabbing the man by the neck and shoving him back against one of the trees. “And where is my friend? Who are you?”
“You are… you are on Annwn,” the man stammered out. “You are not from this planet are you?” It wasn’t until that moment Max even realized what the man was, for until then he didn’t notice the armor and cloak.

“What did you do?!” Aidan yelled, coming up behind one of the scientists clicking away on one of the computers.
“I didn’t do anything!” the scientist said, her eyes growing wide as she glanced back at Aidan.
“And why don’t I believe you?” Aidan growled, narrowing his eyes.
“It’s true!”
“Whatever!” Aidan huffed. “Move!” The scientist nodded as he scrambled out of Aidan’s way.

Rolling his eyes, Max shook his head. “Fine, whatever,” he said. “Have you always been such a control freak?”
“I’m not a control freak!” Aidan huffed, letting go of Max’s arm before he crossed his arms and stomped ahead of him. “Well, if you want to know what’s going on, you’d better keep up or I’m going to lock you out of both bases.”
“Oh, yeah?” Max said, jogging forward and banging his shoulder against him.

Max smirked. “Stop avoid me and maybe I’ll stop irritating you.”
The snort he received from Aidan, actually surprised Max. “I don’t think that’s even physically possible for you,” Aidan said, shaking his head at him. “It might possibly kill you to not irritate me for five minutes.”
“Huh,” Max said, shrugging. “I guess we shouldn’t find out, right?”
Aidan looked at him, then dropped his gaze back to his lap again.

D.C. had been one of the cities attacked by the Nova Forces. And like most of the others, after twenty years it was thriving once more. But it would never be the same as it was before, so much had changed
The ashes and rubble of the bombed-out sections of the city were replaced with towering skyscrapers of glass, a symbol to the Novans that no matter what they did to them the Terriens would always come back stronger

‘Woke up’ might be an overstatement. More like fifty-five pounds of energetic bodyweight was thrown into the top of him, and he opened his eyes to find his little brother sitting on his chest.
“Henry,” Max groaned. “I was trying to sleep. That was kind of why I had my eyes closed, you know.”
“Why would you want to do that?” he asked, flopping down so his face was right in front of Max’s. “Sleep’s boring.”

“You’re not going to fall off that chair while I’m gone, are you?”
Aidan sighed and stopped working long enough to look over at Max. “I’m aware of your fear of heights, but I’m literally only two feet off the ground,” he said. “If I fall, I’m not going to die. I might be embraced enough that I’ll wish was I died, but I’m not going to die”
Sighing, Max nodded “Right, just don’t go jumping around while I’m gone, okay?”

Wallis stumbled back, cursing as he rubbed his chest. “Alright, now I’m not going to go easy on you,” Wallis said, sweeping his sword around in the air beside him as he took up another fighting stance.
The Friction-Cutter hummed in Max’s hand as he snorted and smirked at Wallis. “Like you were in the first place,” he said, dodging as Wallis came at him again.

Bending their heads forward, the soldiers scanned the back of their necks with a small handheld device for the microchips the Alliance began embedding in their neck after the last Novan attack. They were used to block their brainwaves to an existent (making sure not to impair their abilities), they were also used to ID them.
