Little school children learn about Pangaea now.
That was us. That was ours.
That was mine: the whole world.

Let the men have the recognition
and the fame. They need it more.
They seem to die without it.
They seem to fade.

When I was at college for mathematics
I attended Cambridge lectures

from behind a screen, of course.
So the male students couldn't see me.

I wanted to see how far I could drive
in one day. We left at dawn, my sons and I.
No, I didn't tell my husband. Why
should I have? I didn't need his permission.
It was my money built those cars.

They say first, first, first,
as though everyone before her
lost.

Why do they insist on thinking
that women are, by nature, foolish?
They block us from learning
and then mock us for not having learned.
