Status Updates From This Thing of Darkness

"And should anyone feel especially adventurous, there is a rough track, down by the Straits of Magellan, that leads to a wild and lonely beach, where lies the grave of Captain Pringle Strokes of HMS Beagle, without whose suicide this whole extraordinary story would never have happened."

That's one way to end a book

"The funeral was a quiet family affair. All the surviving officers of the Beagle, with whom (Sullivan excepted) he had long ago lost touch, had written to the Statical Department of the Board of Trade asking to attend but, sadly, as the office had been closed down, their letters remained unanswered."

He's DEAD and the suffering is not over

I'm surprised he didn't kill himself sooner

didn't expect his life to fell down the drain this quick

didn't read this book at all today but got to read abt quite a few shipwrecks while I was researching law of finds. I always love it when my hobby and irl stuff overlap.
