Rom 12:1-2…”Paul’s command to offer yourself as a living sacrifice is a command to worship, which is a command to commune with God. And so Paul is saying that the renewal of our minds through the acquisition of knowledge about God (theology) in the end moves us toward knowledge of God (worship/relationship).”—parentheses are mine. In reference to ROM 12:1-2…”Notice the progression Paul reveals here. Offer yourselves to God! How? Renew your mind! That way you’ll know God’s will. Renewal is a matter of the heart, and it starts with the mind, with knowledge of God and his will. With knowledge of who Jesus is and what he has done for us…knowledge matters,& it matters because it prompts worship & leads to formation.” P76-77

Knowledge about God leads to worship and formation, and worship and formation facilitate intimacy with God. On the flip side, idolatry and deformation facilitate relational distance. P75

Chapter 3 gives a helpful definition of modernism and post modernism and the problem of separating objective truth in the physical vs not having objective truth in the spiritual in regards to Christianity.
