- Jeanne defended Charles at her trial (even though he had betrayed her)
- there’s a strong possibility that she was assaulted while in the Church’s prison
- she should have been executed as a political criminal (decapitation), but to ‘protect the honor of the holy church’, the Church charged her with heresy and burned her
