Status Updates From Spia per George Washington

Aha! I was right in my initial instinct not to conceal my true convictions regarding support for the Revolution. A Quaker will not appreciate duplicity.

One of the book's best endings. A measured, carefully considered debate with the Quaker woman, Amanda.

Wow! If I thought consumption by mosquitos was bad, being cannibalized by Mohawk Indians is substantially worse.

An ignominious end, killed by mosquitos. A cloud of the insects this thick could do a lot of damage, as I know from Gary Paulsen and Hatchet.

I don't believe George Washington ever does get assassinated in this book. I still have an ending or two left, though.

These illustrations, though different from his early Choose Your Own Adventure work, are nonetheless high quality. Too bad this was one of Paul Granger (Don Hedin's) last books for the series.

I guess these people actually were planning an assassination on General Washington. Good thing I stopped it.

I'm intrigued how well this ending cloaks the intentions of the "Avengers", preserving suspense for my trip down the alternate story path.

This isn't quite vintage Paul Granger styling, but as illustrations go it's way more moody and eerie than I expected from an American Revolution spy thriller.

Back to the book's first decision. I'll start out right now instead of investing the time in a decent night's sleep before I begin my career in espionage on behalf of the fledgling United States.

I'm playing it safe and not risking our ship and lives, but for the record, I don't like that McGillicuddy left such a decision to us. He's the one with lots of experience on New York's seaways!

Will we have better or equal luck if we set out by sea instead of hoping to avoid Redcoats by land?

In this ending we never learn that the letter to General Washington was coded, and hence we sacrificed ourselves for no reason. I wonder if we're released from lockup after the U.S. wins the Revolutionary War.

A charming ending, and more than redemption for Mr. Hogglebottom. He's an unusually memorable character for Choose Your Own Adventure, and a stalwart American.

These positive endings are hard-won and rather satisfying. It would be an honor to spy longterm on behalf of General Washington's army.

I have reservations about contacting Mr. Hogglebottom, but let's see how that turns out.

Happy two hundred fiftieth anniversary to our United States of America :-)

Very nice: our mission completed, and a face-to-face meeting with George Washington, to boot! We have no idea the entire arrangement was mere minutes from collapse had we lost time inquiring of the innkeeper about our missing letter. The other man at the inn would have found it, read it...and our success gone up in smoke.

Can I track down and retrieve my letter without incident if I don't mention the theft to the innkeeper?

My instinct appears correct that this is not an easy adventure to see to a satisfying end. This is my second negative outcome in as many attempts, and General Washington remains unwarned of the coming British threat.

I certainly will not assume this "Hogglebottom" fellow is to be taken into my confidence while I'm performing such a sensitive mission upon which hinges General Washington's survival.

This book may be more difficult than it perhaps appears. On my first ending I ended up stranded in the harbor while the time window to complete my mission passed me completely. This despite making what I considered the best decisions at every juncture.

Certainly I'll trust the advice of Robert Smith's rendezvous man before my own impulsive desire to embark on the mission right now. I'll rest for the night before starting out toward General Washington's camp.

I like the feel of this initial meeting with Robert Smith to ask for a role in the American Revolution. The atmosphere portends greater danger ahead should we throw in our lot with the cause of freedom.

The book I'm going to read in commemoration of the two hundred fiftieth birthday of the United States. I recall checking this out numerous times from my elementary school library. It's the second to last Choose Your Own Adventure illustrated by Paul Granger, under his real name, Don Hedin. The cover artist isn't credited, but may well be Hedin.
