I really don’t want this book to end. It’s giving everything I’ve been looking for since reading The Cruel Dark.

what’s in the attic? Is the wife being held up there and she’s not actually at the seaside??

Ok but why has nothing happened and I am entranced by this story!!!! L. V. Russel can write an amazing gothic story, such rich prose. Also when I say that absolutely NOTHING has happened between our FMC and MMC yet I’m kicking and feeling the tension every time they have ANY interaction!

The eerie atmosphere is impeccable

Why did I even DNF before, this is damn good

Literally no idea what's going on but the Jane Eyre vibes are vibing

“Stay away from the attic, Miss Corvus.”

Her other book was so dark and bleak (in a good way! I liked it!) but so far this is like a very cozy gothic with Jane Eyre vibes. Not sure if there's a twist coming but I like it so far!

“The dust of this house has settled in my bones, girl,” came the rasping reply. “It has hardened them. My lungs contain the iron from the window frames, my heart the fire from the hearth. I am as much a part of this house as I am myself. It will not let me go.”

The vibes of this are absolutely immaculate
