I really, really wanted to like this one.
The setting was great, the time period awesome, the prologue tragic but effective. The main character was similar to others in comparable books, and I was ready for a grand time.
Unfortunately, I feel the writing needed another pass with an editor. A little too on the nose, a little too much telling instead of showing. More polish and this would’ve been great.

I think this is the author's first book so I am trying to give some leeway in my critique but I've skimmed several chapters and sadly don't care who the killer is. Also I think having the ghost of the deceased pop in to chat with the heroine is pretty much a jump the shark moment for me. Going to set this aside for now and move on to something else.
