I just finished the chapter about Shameless and I found it so interesting that they were really looking for people who were out there and carefree, but still had a sense of responsibility and working together as a tight knit group. Because the show centers around families, it’s important to have actors that really connect with each other on and off screen.

Just finished the chapter about building an ensemble for a television show and it is really about collaborating with the creative team and also making sure the actors have a good repertoire with each other. Interesting how television used to be a place to discover stars but now it is about using stars to build around the show

I am enjoying learning about the success of ER with the main cast and the recurring roles. John Frank Levey believes that the best actors are the ones that approach the material truthfully and use their own natural personality to elevate the role. It’s also necessary to have imagination if you can’t always relate to the character’s situation.

I learned a lot about casting a tv show and finding actors for the lead, guest stars, and co stars. I would say the main point of this chapter is how everyone on the creative team all listened to each other and very passionate about the project.

What I learned in the first chapter is the best actors are the one who embrace the challenges they embark and not complain. And the best casting is when you find an actor who possess the same qualities and interests as their character.
