I wish there was acknowledgement of her doing that and how she seems to be waiting for it to take off more before quitting. She is using her MLM “fame” for that to my eye. Even if she separates her platforms, as she says everyone fawns over her.

“It looks bad you’re so publicly doing something else now”

“I’ll be done and put rejuvenate on auto pilot”

“I only fail if I quit.”

“Her words keep me stuck even longer, she still makes lots of money off me… I should’ve recognized the platitudes.”

I also see a lot of her MLM training in this in her repetition of the same point over and over. I still see this as her step one. Even most of the way through the book, when she’s realizing what’s going on it still feels like she’s only taking the first steps into realizing her impact on others. I see her seeing the negative impacts on her, but not her negative impacts on her “team”.

Reflection: wasn’t that you before you got sober?

It’s feeling a bit discordant to me tbh. Because while Emily discusses all the bad things about mlms, she kind of skids around how exactly she engages in them. She never says how big her downline was. She also seems to really rely on white supremacy as why they’re bad in a way that’s odd to me. The books fascinating, but off. I’d love to see her revisit it in a decade or two.
