Yeah, it’s harsh to forbid her from being with the horses, but it’s not that unfair. Her uncle is correct, it was stupid to have a candle in the barn at all, no matter who’s fault the fire technically was.

Why would they have a candle in the barn at all? That’s like the #1 rule of the stables: no flames, at all. No cigarettes, no candles, no lighters.

So now that we’re in the real world the inaccuracies are showing up. I don’t think Dowager had a bridle on, so they probably meant “lead rope” instead of “reins”. I’m also a little disappointed in how I think this story is going to go, as I appreciated that the story in the first book wasn’t a basic magic horse book.
