This book is more suited to a historical setting of the late 1800s than 1840... The way that characters reference historical events, especially concerning archaeology and paleontology and also the fact that she travels on a steam ship, the first of which was made in 1840.... I strongly suspect the author doesn't know her historical period very well.

Slow getting into this story. Keeping it at the bedside, hoping it gets better.
