I feel like I’m reading the diary of someone in complete distress

This read started out slow but has quickly picked up. Once the protagonist meets Xu and their relationship begins to spiral out of control “Ruben’s” control, I am able to relate more and more, sickeningly so. She stares in the mirror, repeating her lover’s name over and over until the sounds lose meaning. Sigh.
