damn i almost feel bad for derek 😩😭😭

realized a few chapters back that joan is narrator of the story , her pov says “I, my” going to reflect in how that has shaped the story a little bit more

the goosebumps i felt when august named joan as a THE first famous black author… doesnt matter if no one ever did YOU CAN!!

i just knew somwthing was happening between august and bird .. lowkey thought he was derek’s dad 😂

refreshing seeing a mother’s love portrayeddd

this might be favorite chapter. seeing the same ambition and drive i have seen in all the other women manifest in a unique way in Joan is 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 the comb ajd the themes surronding that are teaaa. pleasantly surprised

happy to get some insight on august’s story and seeing her story as a mother (even though i literally hateeee Derek) is so beautiful. and i think thats the whole point that makes this such good writing , you have no choice but to empathize, criticise, and dissect characters and yheir decisions because the story lakes me feel like i am in there ! and again the jumpsbbetween pov/time is completing the story so fully!

in love with part 1! the toggling between perpectives / times makes the story feel complete. its easy to follow and stringfellow does a good job connecting scenes without being repeptitive. questions you may have or even didnt have will probably be answered, and the themes explored leave you feeling vulnerabke just like the characters!
