Like, he has sincere feelings for Harriet but they're also filtered through him being who he is - a wealthy, powerful man in a deeply patriarchal society

I ended up sympathizing with both of the characters. Turns out, unlikeable hero is a normal human being, who needed to grow the balls to tweak his nose at tradition.

They're hurting themselves and each other with this whole thing. Why am I enjoying this? But I am, I really am.

Whoa...I thought I hated Tenby. I'm disappointed by his actions, but I feel the same about Harriet. She's keeping him at arms length too.

This "hero" grosses me out. Sure, he's a duke, but he's just asking to be set down. Even Freddie, despite his gambling habits, is better than this.
