#309 - The Gift of Knowledge



In evaluating the beauty of created things, the gift of knowledge, while revealing the essential nothingness of these things, does not deny the relative perfections to be found in them, but shows them only as vestiges, reflections of the infinite perfection of God. It is this light that changes creatures from an obstacle into a ladder leading us to God.

When a man poor and incapable of giving in turn for gifts received, gratitude is all he can give.

Diligence - that is, swiftness to act upon what God requests of us - is what separates the one who leads a mediocre life and the one who lives a life of immense charity and graces.

Charity is chief among all virtues, as every virtue being perfected but without charity is without merit.

To love God wholly is impossible for man, as God's love is infinite, and to reciprocate is not within man's power. Instead we must love as perfectly as our position allows.

Give nothing but a confident hope to the God who loves us not because we are perfect, we are far from it, but because we are His children.

The willful act to hope in the darkest of nights will be more meritorious than infinite acts of hope during times of great joy.
