Tips for deep learning:

• Space out studies, do not cram.
• Study nuanced, complex material, rather than easily digestible.
• Explain how much you already know about a topic, even if it's wrong.
• Vary your environment.
• Learn by teaching.
• Test yourself regularly.
• Mix up different topics.
• Step out of comfort zone.
• Explain sorce of confusion.

Muerte a los "estilos de aprendizaje" y "tipos de inteligencia". Nada le ha hecho más daño a la educación. Uno a veces debe batallar, educarse no siempre será fácil y rápido.

But of course: confusion is an important part of learning anything the right way. Struggling is part of the deal. It allows the brain the make the necessary connections to understand more complex concepts. In other words, a teacher or learner would do wrong to depend on much hand-holding.

Nothing is more detrimental to the development of human intellect than believing that your current skills are fixed. "I'm just not made for it" is a myth. A functional brain will be able to learn anything, but one has to be confident in out ability to learn and improve.

Curiosity is such an important trait. Everything I've learnt has simply been the product of curiosity. Apparently, curiosity really is a sort of biological drive, as it's related to the dopaminergic system (also in charge of sex drive, thirst and hunger). Nothing feels better in my brain than having learnt something right by doing my own research.

Manipular a las personas con el lenguaje parece ser muy fácil y efectivo. En alguna ocasión me habrá pasado caer en esas trampas, pero a veces siento que las personas autistas podemos ser un poco más resistentes a esa clase de bullshit. El lenguaje excesivamente adornado, ambiguo o rebuscado siempre me hace levantar mis sospechas.

Me he estado preguntando también si no resulta que intentar hablar en otros idiomas también es una forma de acostumbrarse a lidiar con la incertidumbre.

Comparto algo que pensaba Nabokov sobre el inglés, algo sobre que el inglés le resultaba una lengua limitada para expresarse, pero el mamón aun así escribió sus obras en inglés. Igual mi subconsciente a veces se va por ese lado, quizá porque casi toda la comunicación que manejo en internet se lleva a cabo en inglés.

Ser bilingüe o simplemente dominar un segundo idioma también contribuye a este relación entre lenguaje e inteligencia. Acabo de caer en cuenta, por cierto, que empecé a escribir estas reflexiones en español hoy cuando todas mis notas pasadas están en inglés. Qué raro que mi cerebro haya decidido usar mi lengua materna justo ahora, y es que el inglés ha echado ya tantas raíces que hasta lo sueño.

Por cierto, qué pésimo síntoma de nuestra sociedad anti-intelectual el sentirme mamador por escribir mis reflexiones sobre lo que leo. 🫩✌️

Evidentemente, es por eso que escribo actualizaciones y reseñas de todo lo que leo y veo y escucho. No por mamar, sino porque me permite digerir bien todas estas experiencias. Las recuerdo mejor, y recuerdo también lo que me hicieron sentir.

Una de forma de tener mejor "inteligencia emocional" (comillas porque el mismo autor prefiere el término "reflective thinking") es ampliar nuestro vocabulario y aprender a nombrar lo que sentimos. Me pregunto si esto será una gran revelación para algunas, pero, y con el riesgo de sonar arrogante, siento que es un caso de "conclusiones a las que llegué cuando iba en secundaria".
