Status Updates From História da Sexualidade I: ...

The manifold sexualities all form the correlate of exact procedures of power. We must not imagine that all these things that were formerly tolerated attracted notice & received a pejorative designation when the time came to give a regulative role to the one type of sexuality that was capable of reproducing labor power & the form of the family.

"A principle of explanation emerges after the fact: if sex is so rigorously repressed, this is because it is incompatible with a general and intensive work imperative. At a time when labor capacity was being systematically exploited, how could this capacity be allowed to dissipate itself in pleasurable pursuits, except in those--reduced to a minimum--that enabled it to reproduce itself?"
