This book'll make you sit up and pay attention!! Geo-linguistics...I gotta learn more!! And American English is going through a Vowel Shift right now?

I will finish this month!!! Arabic writing, wow!! Amazingly interesting all the writing systems in this region. I'm into invented scripts now. Then a beast of a chapter on Adaptations for the Roman Alphabet for this weekend.

Finally upto the living languages. *Pulls up sleeves.* Now we're getting to the good stuff!

Chinese writing grew up in isolation, no involvement from anyone else :)
Japanese uses 3 writing systems simultaneously?! in the same damn sentence? Maybe more because of modern texting and emoticons.... *my eyes*
Korean *sigh* Perfect union of science and philosophy in a writing system. Consonants are scientific anatomical mouth shape, Vowels are from the cosmos.

Fascinating! This book is easy to read if you've read an introduction to linguistics book first. If your interested in writing systems, without linguistics, it can still be rewarding. Either skip the jargon or look them up! Daniels only uses jargon when necessary. For the rest, sit back and look at the numerous charts for their aesthetic beauty and differences.

Whew, this is slow going but loaded with information.
