this is very well written but this MMC is horrendously vile and cruel. It will take a feat of writing genius to redeem him.

Honestly, I'm surprised at how quickly he's turned himself around! I thought it would be the later in and he would be worse. He wasn't an enjoyable asshole to watch, but I think I understand him and also feel like his remorse is so much more believable than the majority of modern romances. Give me a picture of true regret over a bunch of "grand gestures" any day. That is what's missing from the modern grovel.
