I love how you can skim a lot and you don’t miss anything about the plot bc of how full of useless information it is Haushauhsus

It hasn’t seen an editor, has some head hopping, reads like a fanfic, it’s way longer than it needs to be and full of my fave problematic tropes. Regardless, I’M LOVING IT

Even though historical fantasy isn't my usual cup of tea, I have a really hard time putting this down, even though I need sleep. It's also interesting to note which parts I remember from reading this once upon a time. At this point, I constantly think I've reached a point that I haven't read before, and then a scene appears that I can recall vividly. Also makes me nervous to not remember what hurts are yet to come.

When I was in high school, I found original slash fics through SA Payne and I absolutely loved her stories (well before e-books were a thing). I recently noticed some of them are now available on Kindle, and decided to see if they have withstood the test of time. I've spent the past six hours glued to my Kindle, so it's safe to say I still think her writing is better than around 90% of the mm romance available today.

I wish there were some more physical character description. I'm not clear on the differences between the people of Bastion and those of Corena.

I can't tell if I'm loving this story or not. It's so emotionally disturbing. Like this; I found myself agreeing that one of the main characters should suicide, and then hoping no one found him before he was good and dead. Not because he was an awful character, but because I wanted him to be able to get away, get some peace. Disturbing.

I shelf it as dnf, try to use it as a sleep-inducing-read and end up getting into it...
