Status Updates From Zothique

No one has had a good run-in with necromancers in these stories.

Very Little Shop of Horrors, but the story was just alright.

Now onto the last story. "The Voyage of King Euvoran."

"The Isle of the Torturers" genuinely had some gross out moments with the torture scenes, but this story too is marred by the stereotypical descriptions of the Asian-inspired denizens of Uccastrog. Clark Ashton Smith, you were so close!

Onto "The Garden of Adompha."

Should have trusted in yourself, Nushain.

Onto "The Isle of the Torturers"

I'm liking this one so far, although I must admit that stories are getting repetitive.

"The Black of Abbot of Puthuum" has been the weakest story so far. The only reason the characters fear the titular antagonist is because he's a racist caricature of a Black man. There was one nice thing at the end, but it doesn't redeem it.

"The Tomb Spawn" was a nice short horror story. Now onto "The Last Hieroglyph."

The one thing I hate about these older kinds of stories is that they have interesting premises, but they get marred by the racism.

While "The Dark Eidolon" wasn't my most favorite, I can see why it remains so popular. So wild!

"Morthylla" was a quick, somber read and calmer.

Now onto "The Black Abbot of Puthuum," the title of which has me concerned.

Oh, Obexah! I knew Zotulla was a murderer, but I didn't know you were that way too!

Oh, this is gettin' good.

"The Charnel God" was such a cool story.

Onto "The Dark Eidolon."

The necromancers in these stories are so vile. I love it.

Kind of predictable ending, but still a good story. A mostly happy end for Amalzain.

Now on "The Charnel God."

Damn. That was actually a scary ending.

Now onto my most anticipated story, "The Witchcraft of Ulua," and it's going as exactly as I hoped for.

So far, the threat does not appear to be supernatural this time, but merely environmental.

Again, abrupt ending, but I liked that one.

Onto "The Weaver in the Vault"

Welp, that's the end of that story. Glad, the MCs came out alive in the end, but the racial descriptions really blemished the story.

Now on "The Death of Ilalotha," which opens we people having orgies at a handmaiden's funeral. Neat.

Sometimes I forget that white writers from the olden days would describe BIPOC characters in such uncomfortable ways.

Short, but pleasant story about comeuppance

Onto "The Master of Crabs." We are the crab people!

Well, that was a grim ending.
Onto "Empire of the Necromancers."

The necromancers are surprisingly chill so far.

"Xeethra" end kind of dark comic and sadly. We wanted what Amero had and Ameri wanted what he had.

So far, the titular young man wandered through a cave to another land and now thinks he's Amero, king of a past time. And he's off to reclaim his throne.
