i love most of the writing, but, for me, there is too much description. this seems to slow down the story. i love learning about "the true" new orleans, but found the story to have way too much description of things that don't seem to add to the story, but take away from it. i want to read the book, but will have to skim thru a lot of parts to get to the meat and potatoes......(yes, i am canadian)

Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to finish this book. I prefer not to have what I personally consider extreme foul language in my books just as I don't engage in conversations in my life with such language. So even though I like the premise of the story & am interested in what happens with the main character John, I can't continue because the language is too harsh and upsets me. Others might enjoy it tho.
