i owned this book many years ago. i purchased a secondhand copy because i hated the Tyler Perry movie adaptation with a passion, and i knew there could be no way it was to the fault of the original author. i started reading it rather young; i was a junior in high school and let it breathe because there were things i couldn't yet grasp. now that i'm older, this book feels like a bath set with Epsom salt.

I’ve loved this work of art since I was a child in the movie theater watching these stories unfold. I was intrigued by the title “for colored girls” bc there I sat, a colored girl.

Listening to Thandie Newton and Whoopie Goldberg in the “you don’t know me” scene. I remember wanting to find the poem and had no idea that it wasn’t Tyler Perry’s but Ntozake Shange’s creation. 🧡
