Anyway Elsa’s writing through Elisa’s writing commenting on Elisa’s perception of the truth of her mother’s fake letters from “Eduardo” (what a torrent of words that was) is so heart-breaking. Does she bend the knee to the painful reality that her tortured mother was, in fact, tortured, or does she shield herself from this? :(

The mention of the Parable of Lazarus and Dives sent me down a little rabbit hole. Ended up reading the New Testament passage and then Martin Luther King Jr’s “The Impassable Gulf (The Parable of Dives and Lazarus)" sermon. Unexpected, powerful and super insightful. Love how this book has opened doors like that.
