Am I in a Russian telenovela?

Yesterday I found myself telling my husband that Prince Muishkin is basically Buddy the Elf ("Ferdishenko, THAT'S a fun name!") Nastasia Philipovna could be a pretty great Jovi character, except for the psychopath vibes she's giving off at about the level of Scarlett O'Hara. We'll see which way she goes!

Anyway, I'm invested in this story.

These sequences of Muishkin telling stories of his travels reminds me of Phantastes. Is this book Russian, dark Phantastes?

Was talking about this book with a co-worker, and I told him I'd find my copy so he could read it. But then I started going through it again, so now he will have to wait!

It is hard to navigate and safely land the "as things get more fantastical, they also get more real" plane. MacDonald appears to be doing it.

This whole sequence reads different if the only other Cosmo you know (and therefore keep picturing) is Cosmo Kramer.

I have finally finished The Fellowship of the Ring. I wish I could say I was deeply digesting this significant work of fiction, but the truth is, I'm just very easily distracted.

This is, I believe, the 3rd book my husband and I have read together. It's hard to be sure though, we've known each other almost 20 years 😆

I ike that this O antiphon found its way into my lenten devotions: "O King of the nations, the ruler longed for, the cornerstone uniting all people: Come and save us all, whom You formed out of clay. Amen"

"The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater."

This is as far as we made it as a family before deciding to let the older ones pursue this independently. Almost all the way through the Fellowship of the Ring!

This book has been sitting on our shelves for years, and NO ONE has read it. So I picked it up. Well into the 2nd third, and it's starting to feel a little sloggish. Also I'm picturing Pickett as Joaquin Phoenix's Emperor Commodus, which I don't think is the vibe the author exactly intended.

On the one hand, English boarding schools sound like they are just the worst. Paradoxically, I've come to this conclusion by reading semi-autobiographical accounts of them written by titans of English literature.

I am curious/hopeful about the prospects of the title of this book ending up being a Latin joke.

Our narrator has made sure that no one in the family will ever forget "Ho! Tom Bombadil! Tom Bombadillo!"
