These sequences of Muishkin telling stories of his travels reminds me of Phantastes. Is this book Russian, dark Phantastes?

Every last one of these characters is an absolute disaster, and I love them all. I've been to several birthday parties in this book now, and each of them has been completely bonkers.
"In fact, the truer a thing is the less true it sounds.”

Yesterday I found myself telling my husband that Prince Muishkin is basically Buddy the Elf ("Ferdishenko, THAT'S a fun name!") Nastasia Philipovna could be a pretty great Jovi character, except for the psychopath vibes she's giving off at about the level of Scarlett O'Hara. We'll see which way she goes!
Anyway, I'm invested in this story.

I chose this as my next classic to tackle in honor of my son, who has developed an unfortunate fondness for this word.
