This is enjoyable, however I do sort of wish that there was more of a change in voice from pov to pov. The different povs sound similar because of the writing style.

Honestly, my only regret is reading this while reading Eye of the World. Bc now I don't want to go back to Eye of the World I just wanna finish this.

I haven't read this in days. Got to page 412. Still repetitive and the fun parts aren't making up for the not fun parts. I'm going to finish this but not move forward with this series I already know it.

I can't for the life of me focus on this book.

Got exciting around page 198. But I still don't really care about any of the characters. They are all very bland and I know they're teens, but this is an adult book so I expect more. I like Moiraine. The writing is unnecessarily detailed (what order people go through a gate, Rand brings up the rear). Foreshadowing is interesting and I'm intrigued, but it's done with 0 subtlety. The dialogue feels like it's repeating.

The writing gets a tad repetitive for my taste. Rand has mentioned the "gleam in Egwene's eyes was not all from moonlight" on page 158 and now again on page 168 we get: "he did not think the shine in Egwene's eyes was all from moonlight."
The amount of times moonlight is mentioned and then described or used in the description of other things is kind of tiring. hmm. Just something I'm noticing.

Ok so, I'm not that invested as of right now. The action is picking up so we'll see what happens. There's so much discourse around this series so the fact that I'm not enjoying it too much this early has made me, oddly enough, so much more stubborn. I WILL FINISH THIS SERIES even if I slog through it. But we're on the early stages so we'll see.

Genuinely thought I wouldn’t like this very much, but I actually am enjoying this a tad bit more that Fifth Season and no one is more shocked than me. I like the politics and idk why this feels like a weird more well developed version of like a trashy political drama. I’m here for it. So much entertainment.
I do hate some of the choices made in terms of breaks in the writing but eh

Sometimes, you just know when a book will be a 5 star and oooooo baby it’s gonna be a 5 star

I have officially oversaturated my brain with romance heh and need a break from it. So back to fantasy I go. I'm pumped as hell to read this

Ok so I really was not a huge Meljean Brook/MV fan. Idk why but her books NEVER seemed to work for me. BUT NOW?? i have no clue what changed, but they are all of a sudden working. I dig them. The whole mixed genre barbarian/steampunk romance thing is a world I wanna be in. I’m pumped to start this. Is this growth? Have I changed in a year? wow

I feel like this might’ve been written better in 1st person for Amaranthe and 3rd person for the other perspective (aka when we‘re with the emperor).
There are so many characters who feel like they have no personality bc we can’t see inside their heads (the 3rd person is only in Amaranthes pov)
1st person would’ve been smoother so we could get more emotional/personal descriptions of other characters

The number of times Sicarius says “huh” makes me want to punch him in the face.

I would even prefer “hmm.” Why does it have to be “huh”
I’m sure that the “Huh”s are meant to make him sound thoughtful, but still emotionless, but having it repeated that many times ends up making him sound dumb more than anything else.

I’m good with rakes......but Colin is just an asshole honestly and he literally has hurt Minerva so many times and it’s like only 26% into this. The fact that Minerva still wants to get into his pants makes me like her so much less. Like girl.....why

Honestly Lord Payne is an effing asshole. I know I'm only 5% into the book, but wow. I don't like him at all. And the things he says to Minerva ugh. If he doesn't fall in love with her first and then have to like actually earn her love imma REVOLT

I'm actually really really really enjoying this and I totally didn't expect to at all. Damn the story is weird, addicting and weirdly satisfying

I am sometimes a little biased towards characters. Like I will always love Daisy and Evie more than others. I also just liked Poppy a little more too. So I'm gonna skip Win's book and come back to it after this one heh

These books are like CRACK and I cannot for the life of me stop reading. I will now proceed to demolish her entire discography (is there a word like discography except for books? Idk someone help).
The point is that I don't even care I can't stop reading this woman's work.

Really into romances lately ugh. I'm sure my other genre needs will kick in later, but right now my life is all grad school apps & medical journals so sometimes you gotta kick back & read ultimate non-stress rom escapism, you know? I'm also looking for a good fantasy I NEED ONE RN, but I need one that I'll like and I've been batting 0 on fantasy that I love lately so imma read some more reviews before I decide

I've been on an Alice Coldbreath marathon lately. There is something so oddly comforting about her books. They are super easy to slip into. Also, I LOVE how her MCs start out ugly/not conventionally attraction. It's just a (cold)BREATH of fresh air. hehe

The weird part is that other people who are actually good at killing people are saying that too.......like what are you all on about?

I like Nox way better than boring Sully ugh. Can we please turn him into Hugh D'Ambray circa being exiled and finding himself. Then we can turn Nox into the interesting love interest. Maybe I just have a thing for seemingly evil men who actually are great men undergoing some heavy character development. Yeah, gimme evil turned good Nox thank you

One of my pet peeves is badly used similes and/or metaphors. Not a fan. They show up in this book and they’re not necessarily bad, but maybe just a little off like trying slightly too hard? Anyways, I still really like the potential that this world and our MC has so I’m excited to keep reading. Let’s hope it improves more and more as I keep reading! Pls send well wishes hehe

1. What qualifications does Nyx have that she feels like she can go prancing into a notorious and brutal prison lmk. Because I see none. What is she doin?!? She had 0 plan. Not even A SEMBLANCE of a plan
2. Why is said crazy hard to escape, notorious prison so ridiculously EASY FOR NYX TO BASICALLY BREAK (re: STUMBLE) INTO??

What is going on??
