Liking the characters and the two intriguing plotlines.

This is so creepy and strange, and I have no idea where it's going!

Tense and fascinating!

So far we have an Antarctic cruise that's sure to go horribly wrong somehow, and an excellent narrator, and I am in!

"I got my helmet on and opaqued it. The relief was intense... I love you, armor, and I'm never leaving you again." And I love you, Murderbot!

I've been wanting to reread this since watching the (excellent!) TV adaptation. Delightful to be back in Murderbot's head!

Intrigued, but I hope this is all leading somewhere specific.

I've heard both raves and pans about the way this story develops, so I'm curious to see how it works for me.

Almost to the end, and I hope things can turn out okay for these characters!

"Jamie doesn't believe in much, but she always believes that bookstores are sacred, and enough books in one place will ward off almost any evil."

So interesting which pieces of which characters' lives we're getting. Eager to see where we're going next!

"Even though Jamie does magic sometimes, she's not sure she believes in magic." I'm loving this aspect of the book, that it might be set in a fantasy world where magic is real, or it could (so far) simply be our world.

"'If you're going to start quoting one of your theory nerds at me, then never mind.'
'Henry Fielding was not a theory nerd! He was perhaps the greatest comic novelist who ever lived.'
'I thought Alison Bechdel was the best at comic novels.'

Compelling characters, situation, and writing. Interesting how the chapters jump between times as well as characters.

Already invested in these characters and the emotions of the situation.

Parts of this are more engaging than others, but it's interesting to read. I wonder how I reacted to it back in high school, and how we discussed it in class.

I read this back in high school but remembered nothing about it. Inspired to pick it up again by a couple of podcasts that discussed the book and author.

Curious to see which threads are going to be wrapped up in this book rather than in a future installment.

I got emotional reading about people reacting to the tragic events.

Fun returning to these familiar characters and the laid-back setting to get some new relationship developments and small town politics.

Fascinating how funny and breezy this book is in order to smoothly delivers its horrific historical context.

Just incredible that the lost climbers are continuing to survive in these conditions.

The lost climbers have just made a terrible decision that is ramping up the already high stress of this story!

A delightful story of carefully observed details and interactions.

Reading this because I recently enjoyed FONSECA by Jessica Francis Kane, a novel with Fitzgerald as the main character.

"This [weather shift] will set the stage for the fateful, catastrophic events that will soon befall those who are lost and those risking their lives to find them." Though Gagne takes time to include careful detail, this is also a page-turner!

So interesting how this is developing.
