It's like she thinks her readers are stupid so she keeps explaining and repeating things unnecessarily, I'm so ANNOYEDDDDDD

This is so bad that I'm starting to wonder if her previous one could have been as good as I remember it being.
Great concept, terrible writing. I preordered this hardback! I'll never learn, apparently...

Reading this is like watching a stand up comedian who doesn't trust the audience to get the jokes and keeps explaining them. I can't believe people have compared this embarrassment to Natural Beauty!

I hate it when there's a time jump and the writer keeps making call backs to the time before. As if we'd forget between turning a page. Seriously, what happened to her??

Ok, what the hell has happened here, why is the writing SO BAD compared to her previous books?!

Try-hard writing, so far every POV has sounded the exact same. Not sure I'll finish this one.

I've read these paragraphs on pages 36-37 four times now and I still don't understand what she's saying. Beloved was difficult but clear and understandable, but I'm obviously too stupid for this one.

I despise these mid-sentence switches:
'She recoiled a little, but he followed, chasing her with his eyes, his pencil, pinning me down, holding me in place as he drew, looking intermittently at the paper, at the lines and curves on the page, then back at me, at my face, my eyes, scraping and scratching, as though trying to enter me through my eyes.'
Ooh, look at me, aren't I clever. No, Audrey, you're just annoying.

Well, here we are again, reading a massively praised, popular book that's poorly written. No thanks.

If the writing is this poor I'm not going to care about any of the rest. Next.

Wow wow wow. This is terrible, but at least I've learned that I never want to read anything else Anne Lamott has written.

This reads as if the writer went 'ooh, this'll sound like I'm a real artist' before putting down each sentence, then didn't bother to read the sentences put together even a single time before submitting the manuscript - and then nobody else did either? Do books just not get edited at all, now?
Plus it's littered with poor grammar, like: 'She was making his hyperfocused expression, even more intense than his.'

What kind of an English speaker would say 'hysterical' without the 'h', making it 'an hysterical' in a sentence rather than 'a hysterical'? I'm bovvered!

Why have dedicated chapters for different points of view if you're going to jump from pov to pov between paragraphs? Smells like something an editor should have addressed.

I'm having a great time. So far, best book in the series. But someone needs to tell these guys to stop having characters 'say something obscene'. Seriously. STOP IT. You can't have it happen 11 times in the same book.

This monologue makes no sense - how have you had this character act and think one way throughout the book and now have him saying this?

I've never read a book before that did such a terrible job hinting at things that I've guessed every single 'big reveal' up to this point, it's almost impressive

No yritin, vaikka heti tajusin miten kehnoa teksti on. Siinä vaiheessa kun varta vasten mentiin peilin eteen keikistelemään jotta voitais päähenkilöä kuvailla 'luonnollisesti ja ohimennen' (tähän joku sarkastinen gif perään hei) tuli mitta täyteen. Pah.

Really enjoying this, but it's jarring when she swaps the POV mid-paragraph in a way that doesn't feel intentional. Having to go back to figure out wtf just happened really takes you out of the story.

Struggling to care because this reads like fanfic written by a 13-year-old. Giving up.
