I have to admit this is the first of this series where I am quite happy that there's 75% left. This is longer than the others, yet it has been good so far, so 16 hours is nothing (hopefully). And this relationship needs time too.

I never knew I'd encounter this kind of issue with audiobooks. I blame my brains but what can one do.

Gloam is a character who cannot speak, yet the audiobook narrator does a voice for him, for the things he writes down. It's driving me insane! Not that I fault the narrator, there is no 'neutral narrating voice' as the story is from Rig's 1st person POV.

Is this really on the 3rd time I'm reading this? I think I have missed at least one read.

Anyway, one of the cases of an old story starting to itch in my brain. I can't stop thinking about it, need to read it just so I can focus on reading something else! At least it's short. Though I'll probably want to read the other two then. 🫠

I've liked this more than I thought I would. It's not quite as ridiculous throughout as it was at the beginning, which is good and bad. Right now I am feeling frustrated though. I take back my words about the MCs stupidity. There is such a long-winded and heavy handed betrayal going on, and there's still not an inkling of suspicion in this dude. *Sigh*

Colour me (pleasantly) surprised when this lecherous fop didn't continue his shenanigans aboard the ship. He's not stupid (well, he is with some things, but not generally) so it makes sense he didn't immediately try to seduce everyone, but I was still surprised he didn't start doing it after a while.

Now it's been months and he's been an actual member of the crew. Weird.

The first half was just Hakeem being ridiculously paranoid and it was quite funny. Now the story is in a weird spot, and I don't know what I think of it. I never really enjoy when the couple should just fuck already. Everyone knows they want, they know they want to, they basically already did, but then they stop. Because? I have no idea. Blueballing yourselves for fun?

This has actually been fun, it's ridiculous.

This mess of a MC is incorrigible. Musing things like 'there's nothing better than another man's wife' but now his life is over because he has to marry. Since a married man chasing tail is tacky. Good moral compass!

To avoid the nightmare of his nuptials, he escapes and packs up so frantically, that he doesn't even check if the outfits match! *Gasp*

Running out of time (and patience) but the sunk cost fallacy is real with a 16 hour audiobook.

This MC is paranoid! And yeah, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean you're wrong, yada yada, but Hakeem basically saw a facade of an house he though to be ominous, and spiraled from there. It's ridiculous. 🤣

Then they were talking about horror authors and it all became sort of meta. And then it became obvious.

Let's see where this goes.

He didn’t want fame in the broad, disgusting sense. He wanted obsession. . . He wanted to be the kind of horror actor people loved with a slightly embarrassing intensity. Final-boy energy, a smile with blood on his teeth. Beautiful and terrifying and unforgettable. He wanted somebody, somewhere, to watch him on a screen and feel rearranged.

Be careful what you wish for?

Why do I always do this to myself? Reading two too similar books at the same time. I just finished the other one, but still this creates an extra layer of difficulty keeping the storylines straight (heh) in my head.

Both these stories have, just to name a few:
- Trans MC(s)
- MC(s) haunted by "shadow people"
- Witches
- Medicinal teas
- Found family living together in a cramped place

Feeling this could be trimmed, condensed, etc. Doesn't really feel like a book that needs to be 432 pages long.

Whenever Ash's father met his end, he couldn't imagine the people of town saying that much about him. Anything kinder than 'decent winemaker, aptly named' would be far more than Dick Grantor deserved.

So I wasn't able to sleep despite being tired, and started this last night. I was having a grand time had suddenly read 5th of it.

Need to appreciate how it's not a chore to get back to this, even though all the urgency is missing, since these two obviously worship each other and Wyn is indestructible basically. But yeah: fun, easy listening. Though LM should really learn how not to repeat the same phrase a million times, especially when it comes to smiling and laughing.
