The way the “my own good” scene has me in an absolute chokehold.

I have had high hopes for this from the very start, because anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed with Holly Black.
And I am already SO into this MC.

Okay but honestly, this has not "claimed" my interest at all 😩
Hopefully I can finish it this weekend and return it to a little library somewhere near me for someone else to enjoy a heck of a lot more than I am.
Also, maybe it's just because I haven't read the BDB series, but I am not vibing with these chapter interruptions to swap over to a character from a different series that I literally do not care about

Found this in one of the little libraries at a trail head, and I needed a new "emergency book" to carry around in my bag. Time to give it a whirl 🤷‍♀️

Forgive me, Goodreads, for I have sinned. I am here to confess.
I am struggling with such envy, reading this book. This is why "contemporary" romance is too dangerous for me.
I have been savoring this story. Thought I was in control.
But this book has me by the throat, and is leaving me hopelessly discontent with my life.
I mean, would waking up one day to find I AM Lucy Hutton really be too much to ask for?

I hate that I already know this book is going to become a part of my personality.
I fully admit that I am living vicariously through Lucy right now, and that is why I am in no rush to fly through this. I'm savoring it.

Holy shiitake mushrooms.

I can already tell this was definitely the wrong book to pick up.
But I've already started it, so it looks like I'll be finishing it.

I hate how long it's taking me to get through this 😩
I am spending a lot of time with the characters I can't stand, and not nearly enough time with the one character I want to read about (*cough cough* Maven).
Only experiencing Maven through Iris' perspective is making me nuts, too, because holy cannoli I can't stand her either.

Honestly I felt like I had to BEG for scenes with him.
And he was RIGHT THERE THE WHOLE TIME for the entire first half of the book.
The other chapters have been a chore.
Author, why in the ever-loving-fuck would I want to waste more time in Mare's head when we could be relishing more of his moments of vulnerability?

Yup.
Still don't like Evangeline.

Re-reading now that the series is complete so I can finally read the last book!

I'm happy to find that Maybell and I are now only similar in some ways, not most. I am a Wesley- give me solitude and an animal sanctuary (funnily enough, that IS my dream). I could never and would never want to open, own, or run a hotel.

Just the sheer volume of PEOPLE.

I wanted this to just be an easy read.
But who I am and who Maybell is is like, 95% the same person (outside of the maladaptive daydreaming. Because I'm pretty sure she deals with this, and I do not, though my head is also often in the clouds).
And Wesley is literally perfect. Everything I'd want in a real man.

Never fell for Jack.
Really like Oscar.
Not looking forward to how I'm sure the author is going to do something to make us not like Oscar so that Jack and Laurie can be endgame.
(Please don't do Oscar dirty, author.)

Figured I'd give it a go.


I hope eventually she likes another color other than pink, or I will never understand this woman. Lol
