Finding this a bit of a slog as I'm having a problem with 2 things: 1) the author is very descriptive which isn't necessarily a problem, but I'm find him redundantly descriptive rather than additively descriptive. 2) The MC is dumb! Please don't advance plot by making your characters do obviously stupid things.

The prose is simply magical, and the characters are so real. Very much enjoying this.

I'm really enjoying this one - it's the first true novel length book in the series.

I'm really struggling with this. There are occasional interesting chapters, but the whole thing reads like a history book. No characters are really developed. It's always jumping around. I hate not finishing a book, but I find myself very unexcited to sit down and make progress on this one.

I'm finding the circling around the Jovis/Lin relationship to be tedious. Despite more people dying, I feel the impact less. The reveals are not coming as nicely as they were last book - pacing is off. I'm finding myself skimming through this more.

It's maybe not such a great idea to consume a 6 book series one after another. While I have enjoyed it overall and love some of the characters, I'm running into unnecessary redundancies (explanation, motivation) that are detracting from the conclusion. Perhaps this should have been a 5 book series.

I really enjoyed the story and the subject matter. Learning more about the Old Guard and the goings on in Quon Tali was fun. The final battle was great.

I do feel like the book was a little bloated. There were some point of views that had no real payoff and just diverted from the more relevant action. It could have used some tightening up.

He's not using dialogue or action to tell the story and it's boring character expositions trying to explain things rather than properly show it unfold. I'm no longer optimistic this is going to end well. Also, what started out as a very interesting magic system has now gone 4+ books and we still don't know fully how or why it works and this failure is burying the story. I fear deus ex machina coming.

I feel like this story is spending so much time telling what happened in the past (after we jumped completely over it) that not much is happening in the present. I like the world, characters and potential here, but the structure is really off-putting.

I was really enjoying the beginning, but the jump forward 44 years is jarring. Just when you're learning the characters it resets. Not a fan.

Can't put it down

Took a while to get ramped up, but when it did it really took off - couldn't put it down.
