Goodness... I used to love this book, has taken me 100 years to re-read it.

Can’t make head nor tail of this book...

Painfully slow. This book would be better with the 11th Doctor- that’s who it reads like

This is one of the most badly-written Doctor Who books ever but I love it. It has so many redundant phrases, typos, and poor dramatic choices. However, the managerial disputes and bungling by everyone involved on every level is close to reality, and because of the monster, which is basically a noxious weed that gets stuck in a pipeline and infects seaweed causing it to poison people.

Reading something to prepare myself for rewrites.

A passage from an episode in which the police break up a second line: "I was supposed to hook up with my friends here who have a car, mine is back by Donna's, it's too loud for me to use my phone, the Mother-in-Law (bar) is already full, where am I supposed to go around here?" Walk! That's a five minute walk to the city from where you can catch a bus home and you know it!

I bought this book when I was 8. I think I liked it more then!

There's something therapeutic in reading fiction about New Orleans while you're in New Orleans.

Good to read this book again, very exciting read.

Probably an allegory for 1960s paranoia about weed, with a lot of technobabble, mismanagement, and a tenuous exit story for Victoria thrown into the mix. I remember being terrified of this story. Now I just wonder why

Someone just asked me what this book is about. Basically, it is about the minds of very advanced computers. They discover something extremely challenging- a phenomenon- which is outside of their cultural context, and it causes them to become petty.

Great detail about New Orleans. Surprisingly good in fact. I preferred the first half of the book, which established the mystery and the setting, over the second, which devolved into confusion and saw the unraveling of its characters. I feel it could have been much better if the story had been simplified and the magical elements had been reduced in favor of character development.

Living on Canal Street, working on Canal Street, and reading about the history of Canal Street is probably too much Canal Street. I still get confused between the Walgreens and the CVS in town and often go into the wrong store to pick up prescriptions. When I look at some of these old photos I'm confused about what side of the street it is supposed to be. It was interesting to read about Mid City. Trivia and photos.

I'm two chapters into this book and I think I will learn more about what it was like to be in placage than I ever expected to know.

Bryce Courtenay's idiosyncrasy is to underwhelm you with a truly Australian sense of self-deprecation in his writing style and then to attack you with pathos.

Excellent grass-roots history which shows the impact of World War 2 on the Crescent City with both personal reflection and historical analysis, accompanied by an excellent collection of photographs. This is a real story and a good read.

Droving, guns, racism, appalling acts of violence, then some more droving.

This book is phenomenal.

I met the uncle of one of the people interviewed in this book. In fact he comes into the casino a lot.

This is a good Stephen King book, with haunted houses and haunted people, and some spectacular wilderness.
