This book is too sympathetic to Kate. Abby is always apologizing when ACTUALLY she's valid for not wanting to stay w/ closeted girl who wants to keep her around + asks her to move to Berkeley to stay together but also hides her from her conservative Christian family and has no interest in addressing the matter. Also this book is so painfully WHITE. Elephant in the room! I'm sure they're racist! But Abby's wrong?!

It's like she actually understands the importance of the representation in her book and makes sure to be kind to them. Like, yeah queen, thank you.

Miri my little revolutionary, I love you so much. These books are awesome. This is a really hard balance to strike and I think Hale is doing a really great job of it by managing the scale, and still emphasizing community while centering Miri. So good!

I love Miri. My little unwitting revolutionary. This book would've radicalized me even worse than the first one.

(fake page number but) white best friend got a whole intro paragraph about how she does herself up to try and look like Lorde Black best friend just gets introduced saying "you're no longer invited to the cook out" and then a couple pages later is described as having "enviably curvy hips". ok !
