This is an amazing book, heart wrenching and eye opening look at how some people have to live.

Having loved the film which focused its attention on Philomena, I was perturbed by negative reviews. It focuses almost entirely on the life of Michael.A. Hess (ne Anthony Lee) and the psychological effects of being left in ignorance to figure out why he was abandoned (which of course he wasn't, he was sold to the highest bidder by the Catholic Church and his coerced terrified mother given no choice).

So much possibility but this book had such a pedestrian start full of mundane details such as the temperature on arrival in Bangkok, cost of and length of taxi wait, and every item of food and drink that passed her lips that I almost put it down. I did however persevere as I was travelling in Thailand whilst reading it and had spent the previous August I Vietnam and it did pick up somewhat.

Amazing, very harrowing in part.Beautifully written and never sentimental. A totally gripping plot and an intriguing journey into the psyche of Dorigo Evans.
